Both conceptual and technical approaches are welcome.

Who can participate?

This challenge is open to a broad range of innovators, including:

  • startups & scaleups working on ESG, analytics, data modelling or visualization

Process

1. Application via Platform

Solution providers submit their application through the ekipa platform until the deadline.

2. Get-to-Know Conversations

Short digital sessions (30–45 minutes) with selected providers to:

  • clarify open questions
  • understand conceptual feasibility and methodological approach
  • discuss assumptions, stakeholder perspectives and potential data sources,
  • align expectations on scope, next steps and required collaboration level

3. Kick-Off Workshop & Scoping

Selected partners join an on-site or virtual workshop to:

  • align on goals, stakeholder needs and success criteria,
  • refine the indicator logic, data assumptions and modelling approach,
  • clarify methodological frameworks (e.g., SDG logic, impact design, visual structure),
  • outline what a first prototype or dashboard concept should demonstrate,
  • agree on the timeline and responsibilities for the upcoming phase.

The outcome is a clear scope, required budget and work plan for the concept/prototype phase. Depending on the budget there will be a go/ no-go decision by BayernLB.

4. PoC Building

The selected solution providers develop and refine their approaches based on the agreed scope together with BayernLabo. Depending on the approach, this may include:

  • developing a refined KPI/indicator system,
  • designing a structural logic for how data and insights are connected,
  • creating visual drafts or low-fidelity prototypes,
  • integrating forward-looking elements (e.g., climate, demographic scenarios),
  • preparing a clear stakeholder-oriented impact narrative.

BayernLabo provides:

  • access to public documents, SDG methodology, and clarifications as needed,
  • feedback opportunities with subject-matter experts to ensure alignment with real needs,
  • guidance on stakeholder expectations and practical applicability

5. Rollout Evaluation & Next Steps

Both BayernLabo and the partner jointly evaluate the technical results, commercial potential and strategic fit. Together, both sides decide on the most suitable next steps, including:

  • extension or refinement of the prototype,
  • potential co-development agreements or partnership models e.g supplier relationship
