Future-Proof Lead-Batteries: Non-Destructive Inline cell connector welding Inspection
Power the next generation of reliable vehicles. A leading battery manufacturer seeks a non-destructive, inline post-weld inspection that delivers fast, trustworthy pass/fail decisions at line speed. Help future-proof lead-acid batteries for functional-safety programs—and turn proven physics into a compact, production-ready solution with a clear path to pilot and scale.
Who can participate?
Startups, scale-ups, research labs, and industrial NDT providers with non-destructive inspection expertise (e.g., ultrasound), inline automation, and quality assurance.
Applicants must be able to validate on supplied samples and run a prototype-line pilot in the EU, with a clear path to EU Machinery Directive conformity and production integration or show when and how this will be possible in the future.

Timeline
Startups can continuously apply for the challenge and complete the short questionnaire.
There is no fixed application deadline — however, the application and questionnaire must be submitted before the respective interview date.
Get-to-Know Interviews - December 1–2 and December 15–17
In a 30-minute Get-to-Know interview, selected startups will have the opportunity to introduce their team and solution, and learn more about the company and the challenge.
Focus areas:
- Mutual introduction and alignment
- Clarifying expectations and goals
- Evaluating solution fit and feasibility
These conversations also serve to answer open questions and define a shared vision for potential collaboration.
POC Kick-Off - Directly following a successful Get-to-Know interview
If the Get-to-Know interview is successful, a joint 90-minute POC Kick-Off meeting will be held with the corporate partner.
During this session:
- Objectives & KPIs are defined
- The project scope is finalized
- Technical & organizational requirements are aligned
- Key stakeholders are introduced
Startups receive a clear project roadmap and direct access to relevant stakeholders.
POC Phase - Directly after the POC Kick-Off
The joint Proof-of-Concept phase with the corporate partner begins immediately after the Kick-Off.
Goals:
- Validate the solution in a real-world environment
- Conduct iterative testing & feedback loops
- Prepare for a potential rollout
The phase is designed to quickly generate tangible results and rigorously evaluate the solution’s business impact and scalability.
